I've recently hit a brick wall in my life. A lot of things that were previously taken for granted are no longer so. Making decisions for my future is a constant part of my days. Trying to find what makes me happy is a consistent weight on my person. The peace I can find in these moments, however, is that others in my situation find themselves at the same unfortunate wall. It's a part of your twenties, it's a part of moving on in life, it's a part of growing up. Friendships and relationships will begin and end, paths you assumed you'd be traveling down have suddenly dead ended off a cliff. It's frustrating and stressful.

But there's also something to be said for having these decisions to make, and for having options in life most would dream of having. So this past month, I've been trying to surround myself with people and things that bring positivity and peace into my life. I've been a conscious effort to find music that feeds my soul, to reads books that have become my friends, to spend time making my dog happy, to be there for the people who are there for me.

I've found things to surround myself with that represent a calm in the chaos. Rings and jewelry now on my person are reminders of the peace within me. Calming and encouraging essential oils and himalayan salts are now an integral part of my day. All of these little additions to my life have helped me come to terms with this transition in life and have gotten me excited again for my next chapter. I thought I would share this with any of you who are struggling as well. Find whatever it is that speaks to your soul. Surround yourself with art and happiness and calm. This life doesn't need to be stressful or heavy. It's what you make of it, so why not make it a happy one?
The college graduate's club. (Yes, I am aware this is not a real club, but if anyone wants to start a support group, tell me when the meetings are. I'll bring the tubs of ice cream.)

If any of you reading this are in the same sinking boat as I am, then well, this post is for you. Of course I'm not pretending to be an example for everyone's post-graduation experiences, but here's how my boat's been sailing as of late. After graduation, I lived in a bit of a daze for a while. I celebrated with family, said goodbye to friends, and packed up my apartment to move back home. I thanked everyone for their congratulatory wishes and recited my broken record response to the inevitable question everyone asked - "So what are your plans now?".

This question, in its various forms, swept past my ears so often that I could anticipate exactly when someone was about to say the words. They always made the same face. It was an almost apologetic expression - as if they knew subconsciously what the answer was. I'd make up some version of "I don't know" without actually having to say the words. Something about waiting to hear back from a few jobs I'd applied to.

As the congratulations began to dwindle down and my boxes started to get unpacked as I moved back in to my childhood home, I started to worry that I'd never have an answer to the question. Those same job applications were still unanswered. It's not that I wasn't trying to find a plan for myself, I was - but you can only refresh Linkedin so many times in one day.

I've started to settle in to my new post-grad life at home. I've hung up my cap and gown in the closet and caught up with old friends. I'm enjoying my time while I'm here with my family, and while I still haven't found a replacement for my trustworthy campus coffee shop, Mr. Coffee will do just fine for now. And yes, even though it's only been about a month, it's hard not to be cynical about the prospect of a job and a future with an empty email inbox.

So, as you may have guessed, my answer to the question is still the same as it was the day I walked across that stage. But today, I'll tell it to you straight. I don't know. Because you know what? I don't. I don't know where I'll be living in the next few months, or if I'll be working or applying to grad school or joining the circus. And that's okay. I've decided to take this new chapter of my life one day at a time. And today, I am grateful. Grateful to have a college education, and to have a degree in something I'm passionate about at the age of 22. I know not everyone is fortunate enough to have had the experiences I've had or to have the freedom to come home to their parents and have a roof over their head as they look for a job. I'm not writing this to gloat, I'm writing this so that maybe some of you fellow grads who are in the same situation as me can find some sort of peace in knowing you're not the only one. I've decided to take this time of unknown futures to enjoy the present. I don't know what my plans are now. Saying that is both terrifying and exciting. But I know one thing. If we could make it through those 4+ years to get to this point, we can make it anywhere.

I am, to quote John Green, "Grateful to be a little boat, full of water, still floating". If you're in this boat with me, let's just keep floating - we'll find the answer eventually.

Hello there, long time no... see? Is see the word? Read? Whatever this is. I haven't made a post on this blog in quite a few months. To be honest, I simply lost interest in it. I lacked a motivation for posting, and my notebook full of ideas seemed pointless every time I would pick it up. I decided to try youtube for a while, and took my inspiration to that platform as I had found a community I loved there. I still have some interest in it, but at the moment I feel a bit disconnected from it. As a natural introvert, I find the most joy and comfort out of mediums like still photography and writing.

So, alas, here I am. This is a new year, and with it, comes new ideas and new passions. 2013 for me was an interesting one. There were many times where I felt stuck and lost - at least creatively. I had my ups and my downs personally and professionally, as many people do. This new year for me is a giant question mark. I will be graduating from college in five months time, which is both exhilarating and terrifying. I have so much work to do before then, and thinking about the work ahead of me after I receive my diploma gives me a mild heart attack. Not knowing what I plan to do with my life after I leave this place is probably the most stressful thing I've ever had to contemplate.

But on the other hand, it's the most exciting. It's easy to forget sometimes how lucky I am. Yes, this year will be a lot of work. Yes, it will be upsetting and stressful and confusing. But I have choices. I will have a degree in my hand before I even turn 22. I know with the state of the world as it is, with the unpromising state of our economy, and with the statistics of students getting jobs being as low as it is - especially in a major like mine - that I do not have an easy, or even promised, road ahead of me. But I do have a road ahead of me. I have choices and I have knowledge and I have support to follow the path that I choose to follow, or to create.

I'm not saying any of this to gloat or to brag about my life and the hand I've been dealt. I'm saying it to remind myself. And to remind any of you who might be in a similar crossroad in your life - whatever it may be. That no matter how rocky the future may appear in the distance, it can be far better than anything we have left behind. We have the power to make our own choices in this life. We have the power to choose happiness. So this year, I'm choosing happiness. I hope you do too. I thought I would share just a few shots from my road trip this week I'm taking with my momma to Hilton Head, South Carolina and Savannah. I'm enjoying days on the beach and the mystical mossy oaks.

P.S. Yes, that is a TARDIS I found on the side of the road in South Carolina. I may have geeked out just a bit. I'm changing up my wall art a bit in the apartment, so hopefully some of these will make their way up there.

1. Antlers and Axes // 2. Damn Fine Day // 3. Michigan Constellation // 4. Solar System // 5. Viva La Analog // 6. Yellow Hibiscus Vintage Botanical // 7. Iamsterdam Watercolor Shanon Wisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05090839029103498530noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5496339551824061420.post-68693004592478065572013-07-09T09:05:00.000-07:002013-07-09T09:05:28.592-07:00independence day

Hello, everyone! I thought I would share with you some moments from my fourth of July celebrations at home this past week. We had some friends and family over for food and fireworks. We had vintage sodas, sangria, fresh corn on the cob, and a Tennessee Whiskey cake that was to die for. There was some rain at one point, but it worked out anyway.

I hope you all had lovely 4th's if you live in the states! (Although I hope you had a lovely one no matter what).

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting Courtney & Jeremy's nature and art themed wedding in the heart of Columbus. The couple chose a gorgeous venue at the Cultural Arts Center, and art gallery and learning center. The ceremony was held in the open-air courtyard, and the reception following was indoors in the unique art gallery.

The decor was done out in gorgeous succulents, botanical baskets, and neutral florals. The reception included unique touches tying in with the artsy decor - including a paint-by-numbers style guest book.

I've put together a handful of my favorite moments from the day to share with you all. Thank you to Courtney & Jeremy and the rest of the wedding party for making this a truly enjoyable and unique wedding to capture! My best wishes go out to the both of you!

Hello everyone! I apologize that it's been a while since my last post. I've been rather busy with summer fun and some photo shoots. I recently shot a gorgeous Columbus wedding that I'm hoping to share with you soon!

Tonight, I thought I'd share with you guys one of my absolute favorite go-to recipes. It's vegetarian & vegan and nice and healthy - not to mention delicious even for a meat eater! (I have references if you don't believe me.)

The original version of the recipe for this came from Colorado Vegan's blog (a pinterest find). Click here if you'd like to check that out!

All you will need for this is:

Fresh or frozen green beans
Extra firm tofu
Tamari or Soy Sauce
Lime Juice
Black Pepper
Brown Sugar
Shallots (Optional)

1. Cut up tofu to desired size and shape.

2. Drain and squeeze out as much moisture as you can using paper towels.

3. Marinade tofu slices in desired sauce. I used a store bought tariyaki sauce, but anything in an Asian flavor will work.

4. Place tofu on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes, flipping once. (This isn't necessary, but I love the texture of baked tofu. If you don't have time for this, proceed to step 5).

5. Don't forget to snack on some edamame beans while you're waiting for your tofu!

6. Create your stir fry sauce by combining tamari sauce, black pepper, and lime juice.
7. Once tofu is done, fry over an oiled pan over medium heat. Remember to get both sides until they just start to brown slightly.
8. Lower heat a bit and add some of your tamari based sauce.
9. Add brown sugar, spoonfuls at a time, to your pan. Allow this to caramelize in the sauce and on the tofu.
10. Add cooked green beans to the pan (I used a microwave steamer bag as it saves time) and mix until everything is warm and coated.

Enjoy! I served mine with some brown rice and quinoa, but it would work equally as well with noodles or on its own.

Reading and watching these "WHAT'S IN MY FRIDGE?" posts are one of my guilty pleasures. I don't know about you guys, but I just find it so interesting to see what people stock in their fridge, and what they like to eat on a daily basis. So, I thought I would share mine with you!

I love to stock up on fresh fruits and veggies - especially during the summer months. For fruit, I currently have some pomegranates, red grapefruits, cherries, kumquats, apples, and pears. As far as veggies go, I have on me fresh spinach, green beans, cucumbers, onions, and bell peppers.

I also have some soy coffee creamer and whipped cream in the back there. Can't go without my morning cup of joe!

As you can see, on the top shelf I have a huge container of coconut water. This has actually been a relatively recent discovery for me. I get headaches - a lot - and was looking for something to help. I read up on all the benefits of coconut water, and among being generally awesome for your health and body - it can help with headaches! It's full of potassium and electrolytes, and the first time I had a glass, I was hooked. My headache was gone! The flavor isn't for everyone, and can take some time getting used to it. I'd recommend Vita Coco's Peach & Mango flavor as well as Zico plain (definitely the best tasting). I've been mixing the plain flavor into my juices in the morning and throughout the day - it's awesome!

Hope this was helpful or interesting to some of you. Let me know in the comments below if you've shared your fridges with your readers or if you have tried any of the things I've shown!
For my final series, I explored the concept of nostalgia,
family, and forgotten memories. I was inspired by a video and book from the
photographer Ransom Riggs. He explored the idea of forgotten photographs and
the stories behind them. I knew I wanted to do something related to the idea of
old photographs, so I decided to look at my own family.
Already
interested in my family’s ancestry and being the keeper of our photo albums, I
decided to dig in. I selected a group of photographs I wanted to recreate from
both sides of my family. I chose photos from a few different generations as
well. To execute my idea, I tried to mimic the original photograph as much as
possible. I did, however, let subtle differences shine through – hinting at the
viewer that these photographs are set in modern times.

am hoping to bring new life to these old photographs. So many of us have albums
full of forgotten pictures. They all have a story to tell. Through this series,
I want to revive the story held within them. The people captured in the
originals may now be gone, but through myself, their descendent, I hope to make
sure their memories and moments are not.

The Fault In Our Stars is a young adult fiction by author John Green. You may know him from the youtube channel, vlogbrothers. I had heard great things about this book for a while now, and finally decided to read it when I recently acquired a Nook and was looking for something to start off with. Best decision ever. It's such an honest story about life as a teenager, young love, cancer, and death.

There were multiple times throughout the book where I was both laughing and crying - something I rarely find myself doing. I felt so immersed in this book and felt so connected to the main character, Hazel - it was truly refreshing to be swept away into a different world (and a different perspective) for awhile. After I finished the last page, I found myself in a melancholy state of mind. I think John Green put it best in one of his videos. It's a quote I find myself thinking a lot about these days.
So, I'm not necessarily someone who plays games a lot, but I do like to have one or two fun and easy apps on my iPhone to play when I'm in between class or on a roadtrip. Tiny Tower is my current addiction. It's an easy, passive game where you essentially build a tower with different shops, apartments, or recreation floors. You build your population of "bitizens" to work in your places and make money to continue to build and populate. It's a pretty simple concept that reminds me of a mix between tiny tower and tomagatchi (remember tomagatchis!?). It's a free app for the iPhone and android - so check it out if you're bored!

Three years into college now, I've had my fair share at road trips. If you're like me and live away from home, there will be holidays and weekends where you need to make the long haul back to see family and friends. Luckily for me, I go to school about two hours away from my hometown, so my drive is too horrible. I also get some lovely scenery to pass by on the way.

Anyways, since I have some experience in the driving home department, I thoughts I would share with you guys some of my tips for being trapped in a car for hours at a time.

Tip #1

If you can bring a passenger, do so.
My first couple years of school, I drove by myself almost every time. Now that my boyfriend lives here as well, we get to make the journey home together. Having a car buddy definitely makes the journey more fun and time passes by much more quickly. If you have a rather long trip, you can take turns driving as well.
(On the contrary, though, I do think it's nice to take a long drive by yourself once in a while. It gives you a chance to clear your head and enjoy the music and breeze.)

Tip #2

Pack snacks, and fuel up beforehand.

This may seem obvious, but I've had times where I was so eager to just get home that I forgot about the necessities. Sometimes I'll spend so much time making sure I have everything for the weekend, that I forget about the trip itself. Making sure you have gas beforehand will prevent stops along the way. I always make sure to have some water and/ or coffee and treat for the drive as well.

Tip #3

Tunes

When you're driving through different cities, often times the radio stations will change. Unless you feel like listening to NPR the entire drive (not always a terrible thing), you should make sure you have some backup music. I always make sure I have my car charger so I can listen to my iPhone in the car. My favorites for the road as of late are Ellie Goulding and Bon Iver.

As March is coming to a close, I thought I would share with you guys some of my favorites from this month. I've organized them into two parts: beauty must-haves & random staples (food and such) that I've been loving this month*.

1. Milani Baked Blush in "Luminoso"

This blush is the perfect shade for me. It's a nice peachy tone and would probably look great on anyone! It really brightens up my complexion and the color reminds me of spring which I am so looking forward to.

2. Flower Beauty Nail'd It Polish in "Thistle or That?"

This new line of polish from Drew Barrymore's makeup line honestly my new favorite. I've been and Essie girl for quite some time now, and now I have a new line to count on as well. The polish goes on great, and takes forever to start to chip (a good thing if you're clumsy like me). They have a limited collection of colors, but they are all gorgeous and unique. This minty color is perfect the spring and Easter season. I've already gotten so many compliments from wearing this.

3. Lush Bath Bombs

I'm sure many of you have heard of Lush Cosmetics and their bath bombs before, but I just had to include this into my favorites. We recently got a Lush shop come into town near me, so I've been exploring their products. Among the many things from them that have become favorites of mine, the bath bombs are on the top. Here in the midwest, we've been having an extremely long winter so taking a bath after a long day is perfect. These will make your bath foamy, colorful, moisturizing, and smell amazing.

4. Merona Ostrich Tote Bag

I got this bag from Target a couple of weeks ago. I needed a new bag to replace my bookbag that I use on campus. This has been perfect for me. It holds everything I need and has great organization. When it's cold outside like it is now, I don't want to be digging through my bag to get stuff out with mittens on.

5. Lush "9 to 5" Cleansing Lotion

Another Lush product I've fallen in love with. I was skeptical about their cleansers, but I decided to try this one. I was surprised the first time I used this, as there was a ton of makeup and dirt on the cotton pad when I wiped it off. This was after I had already used a makeup removing wipe. It's also really cleansing and moisturizing - and it smells amazing. Orchid oil is listed in the ingredients, if that gives you any hints as to why it's worth it.

6. Lush "Mint Julips" Lip Scrub

Okay, last Lush product, I promise. These lip scrubs are awesome for winter months. They get rid of all the dead skin, leaving your lips smooth and ready for any lip products you might use. Be sure to use a lip balm after this though - as your lips will be a bit raw. Mint Julips is my favorite "flavor" they have, because it leaves your breath minty fresh afterwards. (That's right - you lip the scrub off your lips when you're done. It's made of sugar!)

7. Nivea Lip Butters

Last but not least is my new discovery of the month. I was on the search for these after I saw Ingrid from Missglamorazzi recommend them. I finally found a display at a CVS. I got the Raspberry and Macadamia flavors. The tins are a perfect size to throw in my bag, and they leave my lips super silky. Not to mention, the smell amazing. Seriously, you'll want to taste them - that good.

Hi everyone! I was trying to decide what to do my first blog post about when I looked outside I saw that it was snowing. On March 26th.

Anyone else itching for spring? Don't get me wrong, I love the winter season. Freshly fallen snow, cozy blankets, Christmas music, and pumpkin flavored everything.

But it's almost April. Come on mother nature, enough is enough.

To hold me over until the sun decides to peek through, I've been going a little Pinterest crazy with my spring board. Looking it over, it's apparent that I basically just want everything ever from ModCloth. Nonetheless, I thought I would share some of it with you all, as I'm sure I am not the only one longing for warmer weather - especially if you're like me and live in the midwest.

I'm hoping to blog once or twice a week on here, so be on the lookout for more soon!
I'm putting together my favorite what-nots from the past month to share for next time. In the meantime, stay warm out there!
